Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi has urged District Collectors to strictly monitor implementation of the Mahtma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and ensure proper disbursal of the weekly wages. Inaugurating the two-day District Collectors and Senior Police Officers conference in Chennai today, he said the state has a high human development index, because it is implementing a number of social welfare schemes,Mr Karunanidhi said the government has begun an ambitious project of constructing 21 lakh concrete houses and the state will soon emerge as a hut free state. He said in the 1st phase 3 lakh houses will be constructed at a cost of 2,250 crores by March next year.Listing the sectors where the state has been performing exceedingly well, the Chief Minister said food grain production has been increasing every year and the state has developed rapidly in industries, small enterprises and in information technology sectors.
