DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi turned 87 today. After planting a sapling to mark the occasion, Karunanidhi paid homage at the memorials of his mentors, DMK founder C N Annadurai and rationalist leader E V R Periyar. He cut a cake at his residence and was joined by family members including his sons, Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin and union Fertiliser Minister M K Alagiri. <br/><br/>Later, he met party workers at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia<br/><br/>Gandhi and Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala greeted Karunanidhi on his birthday. On the eve of his birthday, Karunanidhi had presented to a trust his Gopalapuram residence which will be converted into a high tech hospital for the poor.
