The Government of Karnataka today signed an MOU with International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, ICRISAT to enhance agricultural productivity on dry land. ICRISAT is a non profit organisation with an expertise to enhance the impact of agricultural research globally. Under the agreement, the organisation experts will work along with dryland farmers to improve their livelihood by demonstrating various technologies useful to improve productivity. The Development Commissioner in the State, Mr. Kaushik Mukerjee informed that the experts will suggest farmers about the integrated approach of farming comprising soil based nutrient management, improved cultivars, bio-fertiliser, seed treatment, soil and water conservation measures. The programme will be launched as pilot project in the four districts of the state for a period of four years. The state agriculture universities and agriculture department will also synergise their efforts in the project.
