Karnatka Assembly passes Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of cattle Bill

In Karnataka, Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill 2010 was passed in the State Assembly last night amidst dharna, commotion, tearing of the bill and slogan shouting by the Opposition benches.<br/><br/>The Bill repeals the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Prevention Act of 1964.<br/><br/>The new Bill prescribes ban on slaughter of cow, bull, bullock, and buffalo. The violation of this provision invites imprisonment up to seven years or fine of up to 50,000 rupees.<br/><br/>The subsequent offence entitles fine up to one lakh rupees along with penalty of imprisonment.<br/><br/>Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah described it as a draconian bill.<br/>
