Karnataka: Voting for of one Legislative Council seat today

The election to one seat of Karnataka Legislative Council will be held today. Chief Minister and BJP candidate Sadanand Gowda and Congress candidate Anand Gaddadevaramatt are contesting the election.Sadanand Gowda who is a Lok Sabha member and assumed office of the Chief Minister on August 4th, has to be elected to the state legislature within six months to continue in office.The BJP Member of Legislative Council, N Shankarappa resigned from his seat to enable Sadanand Gowda to become the Member of the Upper House.BJP has 119 members in the Assembly House excluding the Speaker, Congress has 71 and Janatha Dal(S) has 26 members. There are seven Independents and one nominated member in the House of 225. The winning candidate will need the support of at least 116 Members.The election will be held from 9AM to 4PM and results will be out in the evening today.
