Karnataka to purchase 4000MW of power from NTPC

The power companies of Karnataka signed today a Power Purchase Agreement of 4000 Mega Watt Kudgi Super Thermal power plant with National Thermal Power Company Limited in Bangalore today. The Chief Minister of Karnataka B S Yeddyurappa, State Power Minister Shobha Karandlaje, Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC Arup Roy Choudhury, Chief Secretary S V Ranganath and other top officials from the State Government were present on this occasion.Termed as the one of the biggest themal plants in the country, NTPC will take up 2400 Mega Watt plant in Stage one, comprising of three units of 800 Mega Watt each. The CMD of NTPC Roy Choudhary informed that they plan to complete the first stage by December 2014. The plant is coming up on 3500 acres of land in Bijapur District of North Karnataka. On achieving productivity, Karnataka will get 35% of generated power and the rest will be allotted to the neighbouring states in the South. In stage two, two units of 800 Mega Watt Thermal plant will be taken up. The advanced technology adopted for the ultra super critical units in Kudgi will work on less coal and generate minimum carbon footprint.
