In north Karnataka, a modern full fledged meteorological centre will emerge shortly on the outskirts of Gadag city on the Sambhapur road on a sprawling area of 3 acres. The central Government has sanctioned an amount of 1.50 crore rupees for the centre. The name of the centre will be Pilot Baloon Observation centre. This will be the second meteorological centre in south India which will cover Haveri, Dharwad, Bagalkot, Koppala and Raichur districts. The centre will provide data on temperature, direction of wind, speed, pressure and the quantum of rain on hourly basis. The data will be sent to the meteorological centre at Pune. AIR correspondent reports, the work of the pilot balloon observation centre at Gadag is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
