Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K. S. Eeshwarappa has informed that 18.68 lakh families were provided 4.49 crore man days under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee programme in the state. Addressing media persons in Bengaluru today, he said that 84,000 works were completed in this financial year spending a sum of 1,544.45 crore rupees.<br />''<br />''Eighty per cent of the work was towards the conservation of natural resources. Under the programme, 22,069 lakes were conserved, 267 traditional man-made ponds were developed and 678 projects taken up towards rain water harvesting under Jal Shakti Abhiyan-Catch the Rain programme.<br />
