In Karnataka, the Opposition led by Congress party sought an adjournment motion in the Legislative Assembly on the drought situation in the state.On the first day of session today, the leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah said 99 out of 176 taluks are facing drought situation with accute shortage of drinking water and fodder for animals.He said crops have failed over several lakh hectares in the state. He criticised the Government for not taking sufficient relief measures.He asked the Speaker K G Boppaiah to set aside all other transactions in the Assembly House and allow the adjournment motion.However disallowing the adjournment motion, the Speaker said that the discussion can take place under a different rule. The House will now take up the limited hour discussion on drought on Wednesday.
