<span style="color: #222222;">Karnataka Health and Medical Education minister Dr. K Sudhakar has said it will be mandatory for the post graduate medical students to serve in rural areas. <br />''<br />''Addressing students at the convocation ceremony of a medical college in Mysuru today, the minister said  70 percent of the population resides in rural India and doctors must serve them. He further added that those who study abroad must return to the motherland and serve their own people.  <br />''<br />''He said there is just one doctor for every 11 to 12 thousand people and one bed for every thousand people in the state. According to the WHO standards, he informed, there should be a doctor for every thousand people and 2.7 beds per thousand population.<br />''<br />''Speaking about the efforts to contain the pandemic, he said, the global mortality rate due to Covid is at 3.8 percent but in India it is 1.3 percent. He said, the positivity rate that was at 19 percent in some districts has been reduced to 2.2 percent. On Ayushman Bharat-Arogya Karnataka scheme, he said, around 1.5 crore families have benefited from it.</span>
