Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde on Thursday expressed regret over the leak of final report on illegal mining in the media today. Speaking to reporters in the afternoon he said, the report is still not ready and he had certain portions to dictate. He clarified that he will submit the report before his tenure ends on August 2nd. The report as leaked to the media claims that illegal mine scam runs into 1800 crore rupees, benefiting some of the best known political leaders from all major political parties of the state, including the Chief Minister Yeddyurappa.Justice Hegde owned responsibility for the leak but asserted that his office is not responsible for it. He expressed suspicion about his phone being tapped for the last few days and said the media selectively revealed the names of some persons and excluded some others.The Government had asked Lokayukta to probe all the cases of illegal mining since 2000 in the state. The interim report was submitted in 2008 and the final report is yet to be submitted now.Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Congress President, G Parameshwara demanded the resignation of Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa in view of the Lokayukta report allegedly mentioning him as one of the beneficiaries of the illegal mining in Karnataka.
