The Karnataka Legislative Assembly passed the first installment of Supplementary Estimates for the year 2011-12 today. Out of 196 thousand lakhs, 4130 lakh rupees is covered by Central Assistance, 1594 lakhs is by adjustments, 84000 lakhs from savings and 107 thousand lakh is sourced from general buoyancy in tax and non-tax revenues. Another installment of Appropriation Bill was also passed today. The Opposition continued to boycott the Session on the fifth day today. A lone Independent present in the House criticized the ruling party for conducting the session in the absence of the Opposition. He later staged a walk out. Speaking outside the House, the Chief Minister indicated that there is no meaning in conducting the session without the presence of the Opposition. He criticized the Opposition of neglecting the welfare of the state and charged that their absence in the Business Advisory Committee meeting and the boycott thereafter shows that they are against democratic values. The Opposition is boycotting the session in both the Houses of Legislature demanding resignation of the Speaker K G Boppaiah and Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa after Supreme Court rejected the order passed by Boppaiah to disqualify 16 MLAs under anti-defection Law.
