Karnataka HC rejects Jayalalithaa's bail plea

The Karnataka High Court has rejected the bail application of Tamilnadu former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. Justice A V Chandrashekar passed the interim orders rejecting pleas of all the four convicts.

The Judge noted that corruption amounts to violation of human rights and leads to economic imbalance. The Judge quoted various cases of Supreme Court brought up under Prevention of Corruption Act and pronounced that there is no ground for bail to the convicts in this case.

He also refused to suspend sentence imposed on them by the special court. Ms Jayalalitha's lawyers said they will approach the Supreme Court against Karnataka High Court's order.

The AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha and three others were convicted by the special court in the 66 crore rupees disproportionate asset case and imprisoned in Bangalore central jail since 27 of last month.

Jayalalitha was sentenced to four years imprisonment and imposed a fine of 100 crore rupees. In this case the other three convicts Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran were also pronounced with four years jail and 10 crore rupees fine. The High court has not given Jayalalitha and others any relief and will have to continue to remain in jail.
