Karnataka HC grants bail to Swami Nityanand

Self-styled godman Nityananda Swami is all set to walk free seven weeks after his arrest on rape and other criminal charges with the Karnataka High Court granting him bail today.<br/><br/>Justice Subhash B Adi allowed the bail plea of Nityananda who was arrested by CID from Himachal Pradesh on April 21 and lodged in Ramanagara jail since then.<br/><br/>Nityananda eluded police after a TV channel in Chennai telecast purported video footage of him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress in March.<br/><br/>Tamil Nadu Police had registered cases including rape against him before they transferred them to their counterparts in Karnataka which handed over the probe to CID.<br/><br/>Nityananda is expected to walk free from the jail only early next week, as it would take some time to complete the court formalities.<br/><br/>Menawhile CID has said that the video footage showing Nityananda in a compromising position with the actress is genuine and it has not been tampered with. Police had sent the CD to Central Forensic Science Laboratory Hyderabad for analysis where it was found to be authentic.
