Karnataka Governor asks Yeddyurappa to prove majority by Tuesday

Karnataka political crisis deepens; CM requests Gov to convene Assembly next Monday to prove his majorityAs the political crisis deepens in Karnataka, the state Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa has requested the Governor to convene the Assembly on next Monday to prove his majority. Yeddyurappa met Governor Hans Raj Bharadwaj on Wednesday evening after he was to prove his majority. The development followed the Governor receiving letters signed by 14 BJP and 5 independent MLAs withdrawing their support to the Government. They include 7 Ministers. Thereafter, the Chief Minister had dispatched letters dropping four Ministers – D. Sudhakar, Venkataramanappa, Narendra Swamy and Shivaraj Tangadagi from the Council of Ministers, which was accepted by the Governor. These four Independent MLAs were given Ministerial berths for supporting the Government. In another development the rebel group suffered a set back when two BJP legislators B P Harish and Doddanna Gowda G Patil met Governor and reinstated their support to this Government.AIR Correspondent reports that the dissidents stationed in Chennai seemed to have split and proceeding to various destinations.
