Under a unique programme in Karnataka, 79 farmers visited China and 133 visited Israel this year to learn about best farming techniques there. <br/><br/>Speaking to the media persons about their experience, Mallanna Nagaraj of Hungund village said that Israeli Government provides complete solutions for drip irrigation and suggests varieties to be grown in accordance with the type of soil available there. <br/><br/>They felt that the Governments in India should also adopt the same system for better management of water and crop patterns.<br/><br/>The Nagappa Angadi of Dharwad was impressed by the community farming practices in China and Israel. He informed that Israeli Agriculture scientists are willing to come here and train farmers in community farming and educate them about farming techniques for better yield. <br/><br/>Hanumanthappa of Davangere sought interest free loans from the Government to adopt modern technology for farming and showed interest to form groups or societies for availing such benefits for bigger holdings. <br/><br/>In Israel, farmers determine the price of their produce and government stocks them in cold storage if the prices quoted by the farmers are higher than that prevails in the market. The farmers desired for the same situation in India. <br/><br/>Since all the farmers cannot be taken abroad, they felt that the Agriculture departments should demonstrate prevailing best farming practices of the world here locally, so that many more farmers can benefit by seeing them. <br/><br/>During 2010-11 Karnataka Government has allotted Rs.300 lakh for the programme. The cost per farmer for China study tour was Rs.53,960 and for Israel it was Rs.85,250.
