Karnataka establishes WAN to enhance IT connectivity

As part of the National e-Governance Programme, Karnataka has adopted Wide Area Network connecting the Government from the State level down to Taluk level via secured and highly efficient IT communication corridor. In a radical step, the government offices from Chief Minister to Taluk headquarters will be connected by a network of broadband through which transmission of data, voice and video will be possible at high speed. The Principal Secretary, E- Governance M N Vidyashankar informed in Bangalore today that the programme known in the state as Karnataka State Wide Area Network or KSWAN will be inaugurated on Monday by the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. The project worth 180 crore Rupees is jointly financed by the centre and Karnataka Government. Orissa, Gujarat, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh have already implemented the programme but in Karnataka use of Multi Protocol Label Switching network, the only state to do so, will provide very high level of security to data and ensure better network traffic management and deliver very high quality of services while transmitting data, voice and video, Vidyashankar pointed out.<br/>
