Karnataka have entered the final of the Ranji Trophy cricket tournament for the second consecutive time. On the penultimate day of their semi-final in Bengaluru on Saurday, they outplayed a young Mumbai team by 112 runs. Their second innings to set Mumbai a target of 445 to qualify for the final. Pacer Abhimanyu Mithun turned out to be the star performer for Karnataka as he picked up four wickets and scored a match-winning 89 runs in the second innings. Captain R Vinay Kumar was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match for his six wickets for 20 runs, that helped Karnataka skittle Mumbai 44 all out in their first innings. The final scores: Karnataka – 202 and 286 Mumbai – 44 and 332The seven-time Ranji winners — Karnataka — will meet either Tamil Nadu or Maharashtra in the final, to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from March 8 to12.Meanwhile, in the second semi-final at Kolkata, centuries from top-order batsmen Swapnil Gugale and Chirag Khurana kept Maharashtra in the hunt against a wary Tamil Nadu. The scores on the penultimate day of the match today were:- Tamil Nadu: First innings – 549 all out. Maharashtra: First innings 394 for 5 at stumps. As the match is heading towards a draw, the first-innings lead is all set to determine the second finalists against defending champions Karnataka.
