Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa submits resignation

In Karnataka, the three year rule of B S Yeddyurappa as the Chief Minister came to an end today after he tendered his resignation to State Governor H R Bharadwaj. He marched along with his cabinet colleagues and hundreds of supporters to Raj Bhavan at 4.00 pm to tender the resignation.Speaking after meeting the Governor, Yeddyurappa profiled his political career and listed the programmes initiated by him during his tenure. He hoped that his successor will be given same cooperation as was given to him. He felt that Lokayuktha report has wrongly implicated him, despite making efforts to prevent looting of natural resources. He said that he is a disciplined soldier of the party and has tendered his resignation according to the directions of senior leaders of his party. The resignation of Yeddyurappa has paved the way for selecting new Chief Minister for remaining term of two years.B S Yeddyurappa has proposed the name of D V Sadananda Gowda as the new Chief Ministerial candidate. After submitting his resignation to the Governor today, Yeddyurappa told reporters that Lok Sabha member Sadanand Gowda is his choice for successor. Gowda is a former State President of BJP and belongs to the dominant Vokkaliga community.AIR correspondent reports, BJP sources however said, that within the party there is no consensus on making Sadanand Gowda as the next Chief Minister.
