Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa inaugurated organic fertiliser unit in Yediyur ward today. The unit will process wet city waste and produce 12 lakh litres of organic fertiliser and micro-nutrients in a month. These will be used in 774 parks maintained by the Municipal Corporation in Begnaluru. By using organic fertiliser, the city corporation is planning to save eight crore 50 lakh rupees that it was spending to procure chemical based fertiliser.<br />'' <br />''The Yediyur ward also generates 250 kw power from city garbage. About five tonnes of wet waste is generated in the ward. The municipal ward uses the power generated by its plant to light up 17 corporation buildings, 13 parks and streetlights along three kilometres, thereby saving nine lakh rupees every month towards electricity. The ward sells excess power to Bengaluru electricity company earning a revenue of six lakh rupees per month. Further it saves Rs 450 lakh per month on transportation of garbage to the dump.<br />
