<span style="color: #222222;">Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced setting up of a High-Level Committee headed by a retired High Court Judge to scrutinise tenders above 50 crore rupees in the state. An Economic Expert and a Technical Expert will be other members in the Committee. The decision is taken following allegations by the Contractors that a 40 per cent commission is demanded to allocate work and make payments in the State Government.<br />''<br />''Addressing a Press Conference in Shivamogga today, the Chief Minister said that the tenders will be awarded only after the Committee scrutinises the estimates, tender pre-conditions and other aspects. Saying that the committee will start functioning from next few days, Mr. Bommai said that if the number of tenders are many, a parallel committee will be constituted to ensure speedy processing of the tenders.<br />''<br />''He further added that instructions are issued to the officials that no oral orders should be issued for undertaking works. Regarding the suicide of Contractor Santosh Patil, the Chief Minister said that in his case the bills were claimed after executing works based on oral orders.</span><br />
