Karnataka Cabinet to decide on release of Cauvery waters to Tamilnadu after all-party meeting

Karnataka Cabinet will decide on the release of Cauvery water to Tamilnadu today. Speaking to media persons after the all party meeting in Bengaluru, Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister T B Jayachandra said views expressed by the Opposition party leaders, farmers, legal experts and others will be discussed in the Cabinet. Opposition parties BJP and JD(S) have asked Government to honour the decision of the State Assembly and to wait till tomorrow's meeting called by the Centre on the issue.

The Assembly had decided last Friday that Cauvery river water should be released only for meeting the drinking water needs of the state, which the Supreme Court refused to consider during its hearing yesterday. The apex court asked Karnataka to release 6000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamilnadu for three days.
