Karnataka Cabinet decides to ask Governor to drop request of sanction for prosecution of CM

The Karnataka Cabinet has decided to ask Governor H R Bharadwaj to drop request of sanction for prosecution of the Chief Minister and Home Minister based on a petition filed by the Forum of Lawyers. The Forum of Lawyers had requested the Governor on December 28 last year to sanction prosecution of the Chief Minister based on land scam allegations against him and some of his Cabinet members. The Law Minister in the State, Suresh Kumar informed the media persons in Bangalore today that during a visit on December 31, 2010, the Governor had indicated to the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa that prosecution sanction against him will be issued after 26th of this month. After the Cabinet meeting today, the Chief Minister has written a letter to the Governor informing him about the Cabinet decision. The letter mentions that power to grant sanction to prosecute the Chief Minister can be invoked only after the conclusion of investigation and only after the investigating agency is satisfied on the evidence collected during the investigation. The letter also mentions that the action of consideration of the request for sanction will not inspire confidence that the decision would be judicious, fair and bonafide. In the briefing, Minister Suresh Kumar informed that after hearing from the Governor the Government will decide on the further course of action.
