In Karnataka, fifty five percent polling is reported in the Udupi Chickmagalur Lok Sabha by-election till now. The voters turnout remained low till 11.00 am and picked up gradually by afternoon. Over 1.24 million people, of them over 635,000 women, are eligible to vote. The by-poll was conducted as D.V. Sadananda Gowda quit the seat after he became Chief Minister on August 4 last year. Large number of police and anti-naxal force have been deployed in naxal infested areas of the constituency.
