Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has appealed to all the students, teachers, and management of schools and colleges as well as people of Karnataka to maintain peace and harmony. He has stated that orders are issued to close all high schools and colleges for the next three days. The appeal came in the background of stone-pelting incidents and the tension that prevailed at educational institutions in Udupi, Shivamogga, Bagalkote, and other parts on the issue of wearing hijab. Home minister Araga Jnanendra has also appealed to the students in different parts of the state to maintain peace and order. In his video statement, the minister called upon students to focus on education and stand together as the children of this country. Uniform, he added, is a sign of equality and educational institutions are not the place for practicing religion or to showcase costumes. The state government had issued an order last week that made uniforms prescribed by it or management or private institutions mandatory for its students.
