<br/>Karnataka became pioneering state in the country to adopt a web based application called Police IT, a software developed as part of CCTNS project. Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems or CCTNS is a Rs. 2000 crore Mission Mode Project under the National e-Governance Plan of Govt. of India. CCTNS aims at creating a comprehensive and integrated system connecting 14,000 police stations and 6000 higher police offices across the country through computer network for 'Investigation of crime and detection of criminals'. Home Minister of Karnataka Dr. V S Acharya inaugurated three of the modules today in Bangalore under the project. He informed that by this year end all the 12 modules of the software will be functional making Karnataka one of the first states in the country to shift to this state of the art system. He said the modules created under CCTNS in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat have been considered as standard procedure by Government of India and same will be integrated at the national level. The IT network so created will enable police department across the state to assimilate data, from lodging FIR to recording result of appeal in court making their functions more efficient, transparent and agile. V S Acharya informed that Karnataka has offered land to Central Government for setting up a Police IT training institute in Bangalore. The DG and IGP in the state Ajay Kumar Singh said that this will be an effective tool for modern day policing helping people at large to get speedier justice.<br/>
