Kargil War is a saga of strong political, military and diplomatic actions

The Kargil War is a saga of strong political, military and diplomatic actions. It will always be remembered for its strategic and tactical surprises, the self-imposed national strategy of restraint in keeping the war limited to Kargil – Siachen Sectors and swiftly executed tri-services military strategy and plans.
''
''Operation Vijay was a military victory that was made possible by selfless courage, unshakable devotion to duty of Indian soldiers under adverse terrain, climatic and tactical conditions. The victory of Tiger Hill is one of the crucial achievements in the 60- day long conflict.
''
''The capture of Tiger Hill was important in the sense that it gave big physical and psychological blow to Pakistan during the Kargil war. Tiger Hill is 5,062-metre high with sharp conical features, which stands majestically among the mountain tops a few kilometres north of Dras. It overlooks National Highway 1D connecting Zojila and Kargil.
''
''The enemy had a clear view of the highway from the Tiger Hill and could effectively interdict vehicular movement on these roads with artillery fire. It was necessary to secure Tiger Hill and Point 4875 to keep movement along this route safe.
''
''The multi-directional infantry assault began on 3rd July 1999 with direct and indirect firing. The Air Force had also engaged at Tiger Hill during the previous night and accomplished its mission. On 4th July, after heavy fighting, Army was able to successfully capture the Tiger hill, boosting the morale of our forces and positively affecting the outcome of the Kargil war.
