Kargil soon to be on air map

Kargil will soon come up on the air map of India. Civil Aviation Ministry has decided to operate a 78 seater Q-400 Spice jet between Srinagar and Kargil. The trial landing at Kargil airport will start shortly.

This was stated by Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon after a discussion with Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Saturday.

Akhoon said air service is a long pending demand of the people of Kargil, which remains cut off from the rest of the country during winter months.

He said that the people of Kargil, Drass and Zanaskar are facing tremendous problems due to closure of Zijola pass during this period and air service will be very important for them.

The 78 seater jet has been specially procured by the Civil Aviation Ministry as it is highly suitable for terrain like Kargil.
