Kargil: Hundreds of vehicles stranded due to fresh snowfall at Zojjila

In Kargil Ladakh, hundreds of Vehicles are stranded due to the fresh snowfall at Zojjila leading to closure of NH 1D Connecting Ladakh UT with J&K UT.<br />'' <br />''Snowfall after regular intervals is still observed at Meenamarag and Zojjila and keeping in view the harsh condition Traffic movement has been still suspended on the Highway.<br />'' <br />''Despite the Cold and Harsh Condition with bone chilling temperature, Traffic and Police Personals are still stationed at Meenamarg for the convenience of the General Public which has been appreciated by the People at Large.<br />'' <br />''Keeping in view the prevailing condition, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kargil Tsering Motup, instructed the officers concerned to remain in complete readiness to take suitable measures to deal with the situation in the wake of the ongoing inclement weather conditions. He also constituted teams of Civil and Police Administration headed by the SDM and SHO Drass and entrusted with the responsibility to undertake the daily visit of the national highway from Drass, Meenamarg, Gumri up to Zojila Pass to assess the condition of road for traffic regulation. He also inspected the newly established COVID-19 screening point at Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) Drass which has been shifted from Meenamarg to Drass in view of harsh climatic conditions.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The ADC interacted with the paramedical staff of the Health Department and staff of the Education Department deployed for duties at the screening point and inquired from them about the status of screening facilities there. Its pertinent to mention here that the construction work on the Zojjila Tunnel has been Initiated officially this year and will be completed within a period of 6 years which will end this issue of connectivity and closure of NH 1D for 6 months of winter.</span><br />
