The CPI(M) General Secretary Mr. Prakash Karat on Thursday asked the Election Commission to keep a strict vigil on the influx of black money into West Bengal, for State Assembly Elections. Talking to news persons in Kolkata, Mr. Karat charged that about 100 crore rupees has been distributed to voters in Tamil Nadu. He expressed apprehension that the same amount of money would be used in buying votes in West Bengal. Mr. Karat requested the Election Commission to increase the number of intra-state check posts to stop the flow of black money. Mr. Karat also alleged that according to a 2009 weekileaks expose Miss Mamata Banerjee’s party is most likely to follow a favorable policy towards the United States, if voted to power.Meanwhile, campaigning for the 2nd phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election came to an end Thursday evening. In the 2nd phase of elections, 50 assembly constituencies spread across Nadia, Murshidabad and Birbhum Districts will go to polls on Saturday. Altogether, 293 candidates are in the fray in this phase. Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair elections.
