Sacred Kapilavastu Relics flew back to India after the successful conclusion of the exposition at ten venues in Sri Lanka. The Kapilavastu Relics were taken in a special Sri Lankan aircraft, and were accompanied by the four senior Buddhist monks and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Mr T.B. Ekanayaka. At the Colombo International Airport, senior Ministers and Indian High Commissioner were among those who attended the ceremony.
During the 25 days of exposition in the island nation, it is estimated that about three million devotees paid homage to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha. The exposition was the grand finale of a series of initiatives taken by the government of two countries to commemorate the 2600th Anniversary of Enlightenment of Lord Buddha.
The Exposition reinforced the cultural heritage shared between India and Sri Lanka and will go a long way in strengthening the deep relationship that exists between the two countries.
