Kapil Sibal dismisses Arun Jaitley's contention that govt's action on snoopgate probe is illegitimate

Law Minister Kapil Sibal today dismissed BJP leader Arun Jaitley's contention that government's action on snoopgate probe is illegitimate. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Sibal said Jaitely should go back to law before making such statements and asserted that a judge to head the inquiry commission will be named before 16th of this month.

Defending the Centre's move on the inquiry commission, the Minister asked why it is being questioned when Modi government had itself set up a probe panel into the issue showing that there was something to be investigated. He also pointed out that the state government's probe panel, which was supposed to give its report within three months, has not held a single meeting till date. He also wondered whether a fair investigation is possible when accused himself set up the probe panel.

Sibal also accused Modi of spreading communalism in the country. He alleged that Modi wants to play the same communal card, which had brought success for the BJP in the past including Ram Janmbhoomi movement, 2002 Gujarat riots and Somnath to Ayodhya Yatra by L K Advani. He said, Modi stands for Model of Dividing India.

The Congress leader also alleged that BJP leaders and supporters are using morphed pictures to spread communal propaganda on social media. He said, if BJP comes into power, the secular fabric of the country will be in danger.
