Congress today mocked at Modi for having invoked river Ganga. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, party spokesperson Kapil Sibal said, Mother Ganga is wise enough to distinguish good, bad and ugly. Modi had said yesterday that he was called by the sacred river to serve the people.
On Modi's statement on cleaning the Ganga and making it like the Sabarmati, he said his remarks are replete with half truths. Citing official data, Sibal said the Sabarmati is one of the most polluted rivers of the country. He chided Modi for invoking Gautam Buddha also. He said Buddha had left his kingdom for the sake of nirvana while Modi is seeking power in Buddha's name.
In reply to a question on reservation for backward Muslims, the party spokesperson said, the matter is pending before the Supreme Court but if the party comes to power, it will proceed in this direction.
The party spokesperson charged the BJP with talking about fighting terrorism only to garner votes. He criticized the main opposition party for keeping silence on capital punishment for the assassins of Rajiv Gandhi while vouching for execution of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
