As promised by the legendry cricketer Kapil Dev, he has brought back the ashes of Puran Singh after 63 years, to India, last night. Harmel Uppal, one of the relatives of Puran Singh also accompanied Kapil Dev and received the ashes from an Australian family who preserved them since then as no one from Puran’s family turned up to receive them. Kapil Dev while speaking to AIR Jalandhar correspondent Rajesh Bali said that he has followed his heart’s voice and taken the initiative to bring back the ashes so that his family members can immerse them in Ganges, which was Puran Singh’s last wish. Puran Singh was a hawker and used to sell household goods in Austalia.Meanwhile, the family members of Puran Singh, who live in village Uppal Bhupa in Jalandhar Distt. of Punjab have confirmed to AIR that the ashes are reaching to the village tomorrow morning. It would be received by Amar Singh, 90-years-old grandson of Puran Singh, along with some other members.
