Kamala Mills fire: Lookout notices against pub co-owners, BMC begins crackdown

In Maharshtra, a day after 14 people lost their lives in the fire that engulfed the Kamala Mills compound, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has registered three new FIRs against two restaurants and a pub for illegal constructions.<br/><br/>While look-out notices have been issued against the two co-owners of the pub, Mumbai's civic body has started its crackdown on illegal eateries and is razing unauthorised construction.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, a preliminary probe by Mumbai Police has revealed that the fire was caused by a short circuit.<br/><br/>According to the probe, the pub where from the blaze started had used highly inflammable tarpaulin sheets which caused the blaze to spread quickly.<br/><br/>It also reveals that the staff and managers of the pub fled the spot immediately without rescuing their patrons.<br/><br/>In order to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the New Year celebrations, Mumbai civic chief have directed all officers to form teams to inspect all restaurants to see if they are complying fire safety norms.<br/><br/>The teams should confirm that have restaurants have fire escape routes, staircases and ensure open spaces are encroachment-free.
