The indigenously built 500 Mgw prototype Fast Breeder Reactor coming up at the Kalpakkam will go on stream by March 2012. <br/><br/>Briefing newsmen after the 70 tonne thermal baffle was erected in the reactor, the Project Director of Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Mr Prabhat Kumar said the 5600 crore rupees project is a forerunner of the second stage of the country’s nuclear power programme. He said tremendous importance has been given to safety in designing the PFBR and the manufacturing components.<br/><br/>Mr Kumar two more Fast Breeder Reactors are to come up at Kalpakkam and said pre project activities will begin during this financial year . He construction work for these reactors will commence in three years time.
