Former President Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam has expressed concern over the increasing number of Kidney patients in the country and called upon the Nephrologists to give importance to preventive measures.<br/><br/>Inaugurating the 30th annual conference of the Indian Society of Nephrologists of Southern Chapter in Puduchery today. He said, early diagnosis and innovative and cost effective treatment are imperative to ensure curtailment of kidney ailments. Since treatment of kidney ailments are highly expensive in India, efforts should be made to bring down the cost of treatment so that the poor and the needy can benefit.<br/><br/>Dr. Kalam advocated the introduction of mobile dialysis kidney care unit to benefit rural poor. He also stressed the need for early detection and treatment of diabetes and hypertension which are the route caused off for kidney ailment. Dr. Kalam also gave away Scribner Awards and Life Time Achievement Awards to eminent Nephrologists.<br/><br/>The 3-day conference is being attended by prominent nephorologists from India and abroad.
