Kakodkar dismisses controversy over Pokhran II

The Department of Atomic Energy today said that nuclear tests of 1998 have given capability to build deterrence both in fission and fusion categories and there should be no doubt over the yield of bomb tests. Reacting to claims of Pokhran-II being a failure, Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Anil Kakodkar said in a press meet in Mumbai that there's unnecessary controversy over the Pokhran results. He said India has shown transparency over Pokhran-II results. Defending Pokhran II, Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India Dr R. Chidambaram said that the test was a perfect success and the doubts raised over it are unjustified. Adding that there's limit to which information could be revealed, Dr Chidambaram said rhetoric is not a substitute for good science. He said no other nuclear state has published more test data.
