In the by-elections in Andhra Pradesh, YS Jaganmohan Reddy of the YSR Congress has retained the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat with a huge majority of 5, 21,000 votes over his nearest rival, State Health Minister D L Ravindra Reddy of the Congress. His Mother and the widow of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Vijayamma, has been re-elected from Pulivendula Assembly seat. In Chhattisgarh, the BJP has retained the Bastar Lok sabha seat. Its candidate Dinesh Kashyap won the seat by a margin of over 88,000 votes, defeating his nearest Congress rival Kawasi Lakhma. The ruling BJP in Karnataka has made a clean sweep in Assembly by-elections winning all the three seats by comfortable margins. The Party wrested Bangarapet and Jagalur seats from the Congress and Chennapatna from JDS. In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party has won Pipraich Assembly by-election.
