In Afghanistan, hundreds of students gathered on Tuesday in front of Kabul University and staged a protest against burning of Quran in the United States recently. On the fifth day of anti-US protests, the students chanted slogans. Students gathered at the university premises, calling on the US government to bring pastor Terry Jones, who oversaw the burning on March 20, to justice. They termed the incident as an inhuman and despicable act against all Muslims throughout the world and vowed to continue protesting unless the church preacher is tried in the court. The act was condemned by world leaders, including US President Barack Obama who described the burning as an act of extreme intolerance and bigotry. At least 23 people including seven foreign staff of the United Nations have been killed and nearly 150 civilians and police injured in four days of demonstrations. President Hamid Karzai has urged that the US president and Congress condemn the burning and make sure such an act is not repeated.
