In Badminton, Newly-crowned Indonesia Open champion K Srikanth and title-holder Saina Nehwal progressed to the second round at the Australian Super Series tournament in Sydney today. PV Sindhu and B. Sai Praneeth also advanced to the pre-quarterfinals . In Women's Singles, fifth seed Sindhu came back from a game behind to beat Sayaka Sato of Japan, 21-17, 14-21, 21-18, while Saina beat higher placed Ji Hyun Sung of South Korea, 21-10, 21-16. Saina is yet to win a title this season, while Sindhu has bagged two trophies.In Men's Singles, while Srikanth beat Chao Yu Kan of Chinese Taipei, 21-13, 21-16, Sai Praneeth defeated Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia, 10-21, 21-12, 21-10. Sai Praneeth has claimed two titles this year – Thailand Open and Singapore Open. However, P Kashyap, HS Prannoy and Ajay Jayaram were among the Indian shuttlers who bowed out in the first round. The Indian women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy defeated Australia's Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen and Jennifer Tam 21-11 21-13 to reach the second round. Young men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty knocked out Hong Kong combo of Law Cheuk Him and Lee Chun Hei Reginald 20-22 21-19 21-11. The Indian men's doubles pair of Francis Alwin and Tarun Kona lost in the opening round . Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy were also knocked out today. In mixed doubles the new Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa lost in the first round.
