Jyoti Basu's condition deteriorates; put on venetilation

The condition of 95-year-old ailing CPI(M) patriarch Jyoti Basu deteriorated today, doctors attending on him said. Private AMRI Hospital Executive Director D N Agarwal told reporters in Kolkata that there has been deterioration in his general condition.<br/><br/>He said, Mr Basu has developed fluid retention, drop in urine output and he is more drowsy signifying multi-organ involvement. Mr Basu, who was admitted to the hospital on January one with breathing problems, was on partial ventilation and the medical board was constantly monitoring his condition. He has been put on full ventilation last night as a precautionary measure.<br/><br/>AIR Kolkata correspondent reports that the medical board will meet again around 7:00 pm and the next medical bulletin may be delayed till 8:00 pm. Left Front chairman Biman Bose, Finance minister Ashim Dasgupta, former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee and Basu's son Chandan were at the hospital.This is not the first time that Pakistani forces have fired rockets in villages around the Attari border. While three rockets were fired on July 5 last year, five rockets fired by the Pakistani forces fell in agricultural fields at Modhey, Dhoneya Khurd, Rattan Kallan and Dalekey villages in September.
