Jyoti Basu remains critical

The condition of the ailing Marxist leader and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mr Jyoti Basu is still critical. However, according to medical bulletin issued last evening, ventilation support requirement and BP stabilising medicines have been reduced. A group of Doctors is constantly monitoring his health.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh alongwith the Union Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee visited the nursing home in Kolkata on Thursday to see the ailing leader.<br/><br/>The President Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil also had the telephonic talks with his son on Mr Basu's health.<br/><br/>The CPI(M) General Secretary Mr. Prakash Karat, Union Minister of State for Health Dinesh Trivedi, Chief Ministers of Tripura and Assam Mr. Manik Sarkar and Mr. Tarun Gogoi, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and other political leaders, cutting across party lines, visited the nursing home.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that prayer meetings are being held in different parts of the state wishing speedy recovery of the veteran leader. A large number of people also thronged to the nursing home to get latest information about his health.
