Justice Soumitra Sen has resigned as a judge of the Calcutta High Court. Justice Sen has sent his resignation to President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil and Lok Sabha Speaker, Meira Kumar. The Lok Sabha was scheduled to take up impeachment proceedings against him on Monday. The Rajya Sabha had voted in favour of impeaching him on the 18th of last month. Justice Sen has been found guilty of misappropriating funds as a judge and of misrepresenting facts. A special committee constituted by Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari had found charges of financial irregularities against Justice Sen to be correct. He is accused of misappropriating nearly 24 lakh rupees in the 1980s when he was a lawyer and was appointed receiver by the Calcutta High Court.
