Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha was today sworn in as the 41st Chief Justice of India. He was administered the oath of office by the President Pranab Mukherjee at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi . 64 Year old, succeeded Justice P Sathasivam who retired yesterday. Justice Lodha will have a brief tenure of five months as the Chief Justice.
Born in Jodhpur in 1949, Justice Lodha was enrolled with the Bar Council of Rajasthan in 1973 and appointed as the Permanent Judge of the Rajasthan High Court in 1994. Later, he was appointed as the chairman of the State Judicial Academy and subsequently sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court in May 2008. In December 2008, he was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court. Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Union Ministers and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
