Justice Altamas Kabir sworn in as new CJI

Justice Altamas Kabir has been sworn in as the new Chief Justice of India. President Pranab Mukherjee administered the oath of office to Justice Altamas Kabir at a glittering swearing in ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan this morning.

Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Senior BJP leader LK Advani, Cabinet Ministers and legal luminaries were present on the ocassion.

Justice Kabir, the 39th Chief Justice of India was born on July 19, 1948 at Kolkata. He has served in important offices, including Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, also as a permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court, and the Supreme court of India.

Justice Kabir has also served as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority.
