Junior Hockey World Cup: India defeats Canada 3-2

India kept its hopes in the Men's Junior Hockey World Cup alive, as it defeated Canada, 3-2 in its second Pool-C match at the Major Dhyanchand Stadium in New Delhi last night. Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh and Gurjinder Singh sounded the board for India, while for Canada, Sukhi Panesar and Gordon Johnston were the goal scorers.This was India's first win of the tournament. They had lost to the Netherlands, 2-3 in their opener on Friday. India will have to win their final group match against Korea on Tuesday to book a quarterfinal berth. The Koreans yesterday lost to the Dutch, 2-3.Netherlands, which has advanced to the quarters, is now at the top of Pool-C. Korea is second, India is third, with Canada at the fourth spot.In Pool-A yesterday, defending champions Germany beat Pakistan, 6-1, while Belgium defeated Egypt, 5-0.In today's Group-B matches, Australia will take on Spain at 2 PM, while Argentina will meet France at 4 PM.In Pool-D, South Africa will face Malaysia at 6 PM, with New Zealand playing England at 8 in the evening.
