The Judicial probe by retired High Court Judge on land scam has drawn the ire of Lokayuktha Justice Santhosh Hegde. Shooting a letter to the Chief Secretary Ranganath, Justice Hegde has expressed his displeasure at handing over land scam investigation to a Judicial Commission when the same is being investigated by Lokayuktha. He has also charged that Government’s action has violated Lokayuktha Act which stipulates that any enquiry pending with the Lokayuktha can be handed over to any other agency only after consultation with the Lokayuktha. The law Minister Suresh Kumar reacting to the letter sent by Lokayuktha has said that Advocate General Ashok Harnahalli will be consulted on the matter before taking any stance on this matter. Meanwhile BJP legislators Vishwanath, Suresh Gowda, Ramanna Lamani and Nandish Reddy, charged in a press conference in Bangalore today that Karnataka Lokayukta was indulging in criticising Chief Minister and his family members on the basis of land scam allegations made by Opposition leaders. Stating that the attitude of Justice Hegde was untenable and seems biased, the BJP legislators sought his immediate apology to the Chief Minister. The Opposition parties on the other end are stiffly opposing investigation by a judicial commission instead of Lokayuktha. They are accusing Yeddyurappa of an attempt to jump charges and evade conviction by handing over the investigation of land scam faced by him and his predecessors to a Judicial commission which they claim is not as effective as an investigation by the Lokayuktha.
