Puducherry Government has paid three lakh rupees as monetary relief for death in judicial custody in the Central Prison of Kalapet. The money has been given to the next of kin of the deceased as recommended by the National Human Rights Commission. According to the commission, the magisterial inquiry, conducted into the case suspect foul play and the medical reports also suggest that the victim had serious injuries. A charge sheet has also been filed against five inmates for alleged assault the victim.
