Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thavarchand Gehlot has said that a Joint Rehabilitation Centre would be set up in Nagpur for providing support and services to the Divyang people. <br/><br/>They will be provided health check-ups, necessary equipment, training and financial assistance for self-employment at the same place, he asserted. <br/><br/>He was speaking at a special function held to distribute the artificial limbs, calipers and other aids for the Divyang people at Sawangi Meghe in Wardha district on Saturday.<br/><br/>The Minister further informed that over five lakh Divyang persons have been assisted through different measures during two hundred such camps arranged in various parts of the country at the cost of Rs. 350 crore.<br/><br/>Delving upon various fresh initiatives taken by the Ministry, Mr. Gehlot further said that apart from the scholarship scheme for the Divyang students for higher education, provision of motorized tri-cycle for those having more than eighty per cent disability, Cochlear implants for the hearing impaired and separate smart cards are also going to be prepared. <br/><br/>There is also a proposal to set up a National Sports Centre to develop their sporting talents, he said.<br/>Earlier, Mr. Gehlot visited Pawnar Ashram of Acharya Vinoba Bhave and Sewagram Ashram of Mahatma Gandhi in Wardha district and paid tributes to the great leaders of the non-violence movement. <br/><br/>The Minister also launched the Ujjwala Scheme of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas intended to supply Liquefied Petroleum Gas to the weaker sections of the society.<br/><br/>The Minister is scheduled to address the Tiranga Rally organized at Ashti later in the evening, which is known as a hub of activities during the Independence struggle following the 'Quit India' call given by Mahatma Gandhi in August 1942.<br/><br/>Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir also attended the special programme arranged by the Directorate of Field Publicity under the theme 'Azadi Ke Sattar Sal: Yaad Karo Kurbani' at Saansad Aadarsh Gram Chandankheda in Bhadravati taluka of Chandrapur district on Saturday.
